    How it works

    Cyclobenzaprine HCl is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant, related to the tricyclic antidepressants. It acts mainly at the brain stem to decrease tonic somatic motor activity influencing both alpha and gamma motor systems. Additional activity at spinal cord sites may be involved.

    Side Effects

    Most Common : Dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, constipation, somnolence, nausea and dyspepsia.Common : Fatigue/tiredness, asthenia, nausea, constipation, dyspepsia, unpleasant)taste, blurred vision, headache, nervousness and confusion.Uncommon : Syncope, malaise, tachycardia, arrhythmia, vasodilatation, palpitation, hypotension, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, gastrointestinal pain, gastritis, thirst, flatulence, edema of the tongue, abnormal) iver function and rare reports of hepatitis, jaundice, and cholestasis, anaphylaxis, angioedema, pruritus, facial edema, urticaria, rash, local weakness, seizures, ataxia,vertigo,dysarthria,tremors, hypertonia,convulsions,muscletwitching,disorientation, insomnia,depressed mood,abnormal sensations,anxiety, agitation,psychosis, abnormal thinking and dreaming, hallucinations,excitement,paresthesia,diplopia,sweating, ageusia, tinnitus and urinary frequency and / or retention.

    Drug Interactions

    MAO inhibitors , alcohol, barbiturates, and other CNS depressants.

    Indication

    Cyclobenzaprine HCl is indicated as an adjunct to rest and physical therapy for relief of muscle spasm associated musculoskeletal conditions.

    When not to Use

    It is not use : - Hypersensitivity to Cyclobenzaprine HCl or any component of this product.- Concomitant use of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or within 14 days after their discontinuation.- Hyperpyretic crisis seizures and deaths have occurred in patients receiving cyclobenzaprine or structurally similar tricyclic antidepressant concomitantly with MAO inhibitor drugs.- During the acute recovery phase of myocardial infarction, and in patients with arrhythmias, heart block conduction disturbances, or congestive heart failure.- Hyperthyroidism.

    PRECAUTIONS

    Precaution

    Because of atropine & like action, Cyclobenzaprine HCl should be used with caution in patients with a history of urinary retention, angle&closure glaucoma, increased intraocular pressure and patients taking anticholinergic medication.

    WARNINGS

    Warning 1

    Cyclobenzaprine HCl, especially when used with alcohol or other CNS depressants,may impair mental and/or physical abilities required for performance of hazardous tasks, such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle.

    Warning 2

    Cyclobenzaprine HCl should be used with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

    Warning 3

    There are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women. Cyclobenzaprine HCl should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
